Robert Capa - The work 1932-1954

The book traces the main stages of Robert Capa's path whose brightness is almost unparalleled, and gives way to various “icons” emerging from this exceptional corpus.

His war reports have shaped his legend, as Michel Lefebvre states in his essay, but Capa, although often the first and closest, shows us reality also from other angles: his images describe moments that refer us to him as a man, to his sensitivity towards victims and migrants, thus evoking his journey from his native Hungary.

La cronologia dell’opera di Capa, vero e proprio monumento nella storia della fotografia, scandisce le pagine di questo libro ricchissimo di immagini, dando da un lato l’idea della sua vastità e dall’altro delineando il modo in cui il fotografo opera sul campo. Il volume traccia le tappe principali di un percorso la cui brillantezza non ha pressoché eguali, lasciando emergere diverse “icone” da questo corpus eccezionale. I suoi resoconti di guerra ne hanno plasmato la leggenda, come afferma Michel Lefebvre nel suo saggio, ma Capa, pur risultando spesso il primo e il più vicino, ci mostra la realtà anche da altre angolazioni: le sue immagini descrivono momenti che ci rimandano all’uomo, alla sua sensibilità verso vittime e migranti, evocando così il suo viaggio dalla nativa Ungheria. Si dice che la musica riveli se stessa tra le note: questo libro lascia intravedere alcune sfaccettature di un personaggio complesso, intraprendente e indubbiamente mai del tutto soddisfatto, che non esita a rischiare la propria carriera come la propria esistenza.
