Catalogue of the exhibition Gustave Fayet: Collector and Creator, presented at the Fondation Louis Vuitton, Paris (9 October 2026 – 8 March 2027).

Icons of Modern Art. Gauguin, Van Gogh, Redon, Cézanne, Degas, Toulouse-Lautrec, Renoir, Morisot, Matisse, Van Dongen... In line with its series of exhibitions devoted to the great collectors who shaped the history of modern art, the Fondation Louis Vuitton is now paying tribute to a little-known yet visionary character : Gustave Fayet (1865-1925).

Featuring over 300 works and documents, this volume reveals, for the first time, the outstanding collection of a man who was among the initial admirers in France of Vincent van Gogh, Paul Gauguin, and Odilon Redon. Original research has yielded this catalogue, which enables readers to discover masterpieces, once part of an almost forgotten collection, dispersed nearly a century ago.

It traces Fayet's extraordinary career as a major promoter of modernism in the early 20th century. Fayet was not just a bold collector but also a prolific artist in fields as varied as painting, ceramics, decorative arts, textiles, and illustration. This is explored in Gustave Fayet Designer, the companion volume to this catalogue.
