Dali's bestiary transgresses the laws of zoology, which he subjects to his delirious interpretation of reality. The monsters and chimeras conceived by the artist question humanity, its psyche, its relationship to sexuality, its unconscious and its phobias.

Catalogue of the exhibition Salvador Dalí. Divine Creatures, presented at the Espace Culturel Départemental Lympia, Nice (19 July – 23 November 2025).
Proliferating ants, lace rhinoceroses, apocalyptic horses, rotten donkeys, arachnoid elephants, pet ocelots and anteaters on leashes... Salvador Dalí imagined a fantastical bestiary revisiting ancient mythology, medieval representations and those of artists such as Brueghel and Bosch.
Transgressing scientific classifications of the animal world, this bestiary is unique because it is linked to Dalí's theory of the irrational and the human psyche, primarily that of the artist himself.
Fantasies, dreams, phobias, metamorphoses, hallucinations and chain symbolisations become symptoms for analysts and feed an imagination of chimeras, supernatural and divine creatures.
