This book traces fifty years of Marc Held’s design work, whose popularity with a wide audience helped to liberate lifestyles.
From the white plastic bed for the Prisunic catalogue (1966) to the Culbuto armchair produced by Knoll, from the Lip watch to the private apartments at the Élysée Palace (1983), Marc Held’s furniture and objects mark the revival of French design, following in the footsteps of Scandinavian designers such as Alvar Aalto and Arne Jacobsen...
Through his gallery L’Echoppe on Rue de Seine, and later through his agency, Marc Held, designer and architect, was involved in major projects for IBM and Renault.
His generous vision has remained true to the humanist values that shaped his childhood in Bagnolet, where he was born in 1932. Based in Greece, on the island of Skopelos, for over twenty years, Marc Held continues to build houses and furnish them with his own creations, made in collaboration with Greek craftsmen.
