Francis Picabia, Catalogue Raisonné - Volume I, 1898-1914

Volume I includes works ranging from Picabia’s early Impressionist pieces of 1898 to the abstract and Cubist paintings he made between 1912 and 1914. It features new critical and scientific readings of individual works and pays particular attention to the artist’s lesser-known pieces.

Volumes II–IV will explore Picabia’s fundamental role in the Dada movement, followed by his experiments with a variety of figurative styles, before concluding with the artist’s return to profoundly personal abstract art toward the end of his life. An addendum is anticipated for paintings that emerge after publication of the initial volumes and for the majority of Picabia’s works on paper.

The authors : William A. Camfield is professor emeritus, Rice University. He is the author of Francis Picabia, His Art, Life, and Times (Princeton University Press, 1979). Arnauld Pierre is professor of art history, Université Paris-Sorbonne, and the author of Francis Picabia, La peinture sans aura (Gallimard, 2002). Candace Clements is affiliate professor of art history, University of Houston, and research associate of the Comité Picabia. Beverley Calté is an independent scholar and graduate of Sarah Lawrence College.
