Slavko Kopac

Catalogue of the Slavko Kopač exhibition, presented at the Accademia delle Arti del Disegno, Florence (12 September - 13 November 2025).

The book explores the many facets of Slavko Kopač (1913–1995), an artist who had close ties to Surrealism, Art Informel and Art Brut.

A close collaborator of Jean Dubuffet, Slavko Kopač also played a key role in the creation and promotion of the Collection de l'Art Brut, of which he was the first curator. His magical, totemic universe fascinated the Surrealists and led to a collaboration with André Breton. At the same time, the critic Michel Tapié included him in his book Un art autre (Paris, Gabriel Giraud et Fils, 1952; reprinted by Artcurial, 1994) and in the exhibition of the same name, while recognising his originality within Art Informel.

Stretto collaboratore di Jean Dubuffet, Slavko Kopač ha anche svolto un ruolo chiave nella costituzione e nella promozione della Collection de l'Art Brut, di cui è stato il primo curatore. Il suo universo magico e totemico ha affascinato i surrealisti e ha dato vita a una collaborazione con André Breton.
