Exhibition catalogue for Djamel Tatah: Repeat – Mutate, on display at the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Dijon (22 May – 20 September 2026).
For over thirty years, Djamel Tatah has been exploring the human condition through paintings and prints in which the repetition and transformation of figures serve as the driving force behind a reflection on solitude, memory and exile.
Life-size silhouettes, bodies lying down or standing upright, his anonymous figures are set against stark, colourful backgrounds, suspended between stillness and movement.
This bilingual and richly illustrated exhibition catalogue brings together all the works on display and features previously unpublished contributions from specialists, art historians and curators such as Alfred Pacquement and Éric de Chassey.
Through a variety of essays and analyses, it explores how Djamel Tatah, by reworking and transforming motifs, turns painting into an act of resistance and a sensitive, universal experience in which each variation depicts a humanity in perpetual evolution.
