Yuima Nakazato - Beyond Couture

Yuima Nakazato - Publisher Liénart - Ouvrage broché - 127 pages - Text in Bilingue Français / English - Published in 2024

Japanese designer Yuima Nakazato, born in 1985, is one of those daring enough to renew the role of clothing. His ambition is to link haute-couture design with the circular economy, a little-understood notion that evokes simple creative gestures, far removed from the tradition of Parisian couture.

Exhibition Catalogue Yuima Nakazato, Beyond Couture, presented at the Calais Lace and Fashion Museum (June 15, 2024 - January 5, 2025).

His aesthetic work is avant-garde, flamboyant, poetic and singular, with garments designed to weave an emotional bond between the couturier and those who wear his creations, to have several lives and, by the same token, to respect the planet's resources.

Yuima Nakazato draws on all the know-how of Western and Oriental dressmaking, but also and above all on the Far Eastern way of thinking about clothing.

When he can't find a solution in the knowledge inherited from the past, he develops new technical solutions with the best researchers of his time: new textiles, new garment assembly techniques, new ways of wearing them. Yuima Nakazato's couture is a laboratory in the service of more environmentally-friendly fashion, integrating recycled materials and waste not valorized by industry. His vision of clothing is driven by a desire to democratize made-to-measure design.

This book offers a step-by-step reading of his work, and reveals all his collections, from the first to be presented on the official French haute couture calendar in 2016 to the last in January 2024.
